The court has major cases in store concerning presidential powers as Donald Trump probes the limits of his authority under the US Constitution and federal law.
Before hearing arguments in its first two cases of the term, the court rebuffed appeals in multiple cases, including a bid by British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell to overturn her conviction for helping Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender, as the justices steered clear of a case that continues to hound Trump and his administration.
